You tie them or you can wear them as a straight leg but tie them so that the laces have that cute bow tie. I also have the khaki colored one and the waistband is hardly even there. Oh I almost forgot do not get the ones that in when you shop for it do not get the ones that have the zippered pockets. That is a it's like a tight fit for some reason in the same size and the buttons on there do not make the airport security screening machine like for metal at all. My travel tip is wear what you want in the airplane but be strategic for packing later on as well.
